Process_Description:
Standard GIS techniques were used. Datum was defined as NAD27 (the ETOPO2 dataset does not have a defined datum). The area of interest was clipped separately for areas E and W of 180 degrees. The separate areas were then projected from 2 minute spacing (with slight oversampling) using bilinear interpolation to UTM zone 2 with 2 km spacing, clipped, mosaic'ed, and clipped to final dimensions. An anomalous basin in Norton Sound (apparent by comparison with a navigational chart) was corrected. In this small area, grid cell values less than -23 m were converted to nodata, and replaced (merged) with depths from a topogrid interpolation using surrounding bathymetry. Higher resolution bathymetric data are needed for scientific analysis of this region.
