In 2007, NOAA GMD started monitoring the air composition at a tall tower 25 miles north of Denver. The air samples had a strong and atypical hydrocarbon signature. To identify the source of the hydrocarbons, we outfitted a vehicle with a methane analyzer and collected discrete air samples downwind of methane sources across the Front Range during the summer of 2008. I will describe results from this first study and share some results about other field work we have done in oil and gas fields in 2011 and 2012.
