Mark Dyurgerov and editors Mark Meier and Richard Armstrong (NSIDC) recently released the most complete glacier regime dataset for worldwide mountain and subpolar glaciers as INSTAAR Occasional Paper No. 55. This paper is not only a collection of data, but a global analysis of glacier regime in connection with present-day climate, water balance, sea-level rise, and other environmental issues. These data will provide valuable inputs to models in hydrology, geomorphology, climatology and paleoclimatology. This publication is one of INSTAAR's contributions to the United Nations International Year of Mountains, 2002.
