Global Change Research Guide ......................

Where can I find data?

Global Change Master Directory (NASA)
Clearinghouse of earth science data sets and services. Major categories include agriculture, atmosphere, biosphere, hydrosphere and oceans, snow and ice, geology and geophysics, paleoclimatology, and human dimensions of global change. Most data sets are free and downloadable from the internet.

National Climatic Data Center (NOAA)
Find and access data from all NOAA Data Centers, including the World Data Center for Meteorology and the World Data Center for Paleoclimatology.

Niwot Ridge Long-Term Ecological Research (LTER) data
Long-running data sets of Rocky Mountain climate observations.

Where can I find literature?

GeoRef
Navigate from the University Library page to this database of 2.2 million references to articles, government reports (such as USGS studies) and other materials collected by the American Geological Institute. Coverage is quite complete, with materials on North America going back to 1785, and on other areas of the world since 1933.

GeoScienceWorld
A reference database indexing the research of journals from several geoscience professional associations, including AAPG, AGI, the Cushman Foundation for Foraminiferal Research, and GSA.

U.S. Global Change Research Program bibliographic search
Search about 6,000 reports and other publications.

Who is doing similar research?

Global Change Research Programs (NSF)

Inter-American Institute for Global Change Research
The IAI is an intergovernmental organization supported by 19 countries in the Americas. It focuses on information exchange between countries and between scientists and policy makers, and it supports global change research through grants, workshops, and educational programs.

Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC)
Established by the World Meteorological Organization (WMO) and the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) to assess scientific, technical, and socioeconomic information relevant for the understanding of climate change. Download summary and science reports that provide an up-to-date assessment of the state of knowledge on climate change.

International Geosphere-Biosphere Programme (IGBP)
An international scientific research program working to describe and understand the interactive physical, chemical and biological processes that regulate the total Earth System, the changes that are occurring in this system, and the manner in which they are influenced by human actions.

International Human Dimensions Programme (IHDP) on Global Environmental Change
IHDP is an international, interdisciplinary, non-governmental science program dedicated to promoting and coordinating research on the human dimensions of global environmental change. Its three main objectives are research, capacity building, and networking.

U.S. Long Term Ecological Research (LTER) Network
A collaborative effort between 1800 scientists to collect long-term ecological data and perform research at 26 diverse sites.

World Climate Programme (WCRP)
The WCRP is under the joint sponsorship of International Council for Science (ICSU), the World Meteorological Organization (WMO), and the Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission (IOC) of UNESCO. The program seeks fundamental scientific understanding of the physical climate system and climate processes needed to determine to what extent climate can be predicted and the extent of human influence.
