Amy Hutchinson Rinehart has been appointed Series Editor for the Long Term Ecological Network (LTER) Schoolyard Series through the National Science Foundation (NSF). Prior to taking this position, Amy has been with several Western publishing houses in a variety of roles, including Geoscience Press, Roberts Rinehart Publishers, University Press of Colorado, and VeloPress. As the former owner of Moonlight Publishing, she started her association with the Schoolyard Series and has developed most of the books in the series from concept to publication. Each of the 26 LTER sites worldwide is encouraged to work with the Series Editor to develop a book idea featuring what their site is all about as a community outreach project.
Amy is a third-generation book publisher, as both her grandfather and father spent most of their careers in the business. There are several titles in the INSTAAR library that her father has either edited or published; under the imprints of Reinhold, Van Nostrand Reinhold, Dowden, Hutchinson & Ross, and Hutchinson & Ross. She is passionate about further developing new titles for the Schoolyard Series and enjoys being involved with all of the players in the complicated process of putting a children's book together. She is honored to be able to devote her time and attention to this important series of scientific children's literature. The books are not only beautiful and engaging, but also developed with the purpose of making what the scientists are researching at the LTER sites captivating to school-age children.
Amy lives with her husband Rick, their yellow Lab Mercy, and cat Lily in Louisville, CO.
