INSTAAR Directorate Members

Specialty: Glaciology, Terrestrial Hydrology.

Research Interests: Mountain glaciers and ice caps in relation to climate change and the global-water cycle, glacier mass balance monitoring, spatial and temporal distribution of glacier properties, measurement methods for glacier mass balance and runoff, all aspects of glacier regime and melt-water production worldwide, with particular emphasis in the Arctic, Alaska, and Central Asia.

Recent research has focused on: (1) gathering glacier global mass-balance data and analysis for estimation of glacier contribution to sea-level changes as a part of global water balance; (2) studying climate variability as it is shown by glacier mass balance data; (3) developing new methodology of global glacier mass-balance and runoff monitoring; (4) Central Asia water resources, particularly change in amount of glacier runoff since the Last Glacial Maximum.

Outstanding Award: State Grant of Russian Federation.
