Specialty: Marine carbon cycle; ocean climate variability and change; ocean modeling.
Research Interests: My research is focused on understanding the physical, chemical, and biological processes controlling air-sea carbon dioxide exchange. Using modeling and observational studies, I investigate how these processes operated in the past, how they function today, and how they might respond to anthropogenic climate change in the future. Some current topics include: testing the sensitivity Southern Ocean carbon uptake to changes in wind stress and stratification; quantifying the impact of thermocline induction on decadal variability of the North Atlantic carbon sink; and high-resolution modeling of the Southern Ocean carbon cycle.
