Primary Duties: Research Associate for INSTAAR and Scientific for National Ecological Observatory Network (NEON). Research Interests: Tropical forest structure and carbon dynamics; plant population ecology of tropical trees; the effects of habitat fragmentation on tree species’ richness and abundance, emphasizing forest regeneration. Primary Duties: Paleoclimatological
studies on a continental scale in North America, using pollen, plant
macrofossils,
and modern vegetation to look at past and future climate and vegetation
changes. Supervisor: Anne Jennings.
Patrick Cappa
Primary Duties: Trace metal analysis of biogenic carbonates by ICP-MS. Wet chemical pretreatment of geologic samples, and isolation of CO2 in atmospheric samples, for AMS radiocarbon analysis. Research Interests: Isotope chemistry applications in paleo-climatology, oceanography, archeology and evolutionary biology. Supervisors: Thomas Marchitto, Scott Lehman
Kurt Chowanski
Primary Duties: Maintaining and operating meteorological monitoring stations at Niwot Ridge, Mountain Research Station. Supporting two NOAA groups in the collection of atmospheric air samples at Niwot Ridge. Research Interests: Climate and snow. Supervisor: Mark Williams.
Stephen DeVogel
Primary Duties: Oversee daily operations of Amino Acid Geochronology Lab, maintain archival databases, and perform GIS and graphics tasks. Research Interests: Human impacts on the paleoenvironment with special emphasis on extinctions. Supervisor: Gifford Miller.

Primary Duties: Isotopic analysis of atmospheric CO2. Research Interests: Atmospheric and analytical chemistry. Supervisor: Bruce Vaughn.
Casey Flynn
Primary Duties: Field technician at the Niwot Ridge Long Term Ecological Research site, based out of the Mountain Research Station. Perform much of the regular field sampling for LTER, including water grab samples from surface water, ground water, soil lysimeters, and snow melt. Conduct regular snow surveys of fixed point snow grids and digging snow pits throughout the winter. Maintain several meteorological stations along the ridge, making sure instruments work properly and are producing good data. Research Interests: Snow metamorphism, snow hydrology, and geomorphology. Supervisor: Mark Williams

Bruce Vaughn
Primary Duties: Oversees the operation
of the Stable Isotope Lab that performs isotopic analyses on atmospheric
CO2, CH4, polar ice cores, water, and organic materials. The facility
is comprised of several labs, and houses multiple prep systems, off
line
extraction systems, computing facilities, and six mass spectrometers.
Research
Interests: collaborative isotopic studies in ice cores, glaciers,
atmospheric gases, and global change in general. Supervisor: Jim White.
