Colorado Water and Energy Research Center

We study the ways that water and energy resources connect and collide, serving as a neutral clearinghouse of scientifically-based information on contentious “energy-water nexus” debates.  Funded by the University of Colorado’s Office for University Outreach, we focus on the environmental and social questions that surround natural gas development in the Intermountain West.

Extreme Ice Survey

An innovative, long-term photography project that merges art and science to give a “visual voice” to the planet’s changing ecosystems. Time-lapse photography of glaciers around the world are collated into stunning videos that reveal how fast climate change is transforming large regions of the planet.

Mountain Research Station

Mountain Research Station

An INSTAAR interdisciplinary research facility devoted to advancement of the study of mountain ecosystems. Research at the MRS is performed by investigators from numerous organizations, including the Niwot Ridge LTER, Boulder Creek CZO, and National Ecological Observatory Network. The MRS is in charge of the Mountain Climate Program, established in 1952 to provide long-term climate data from the Colorado Front Range.
