Data citation in AGU journals: What does it mean for you?

March 13th, 2014

Ruth Duerr, NSIDC Data Management and Cyberinfrastructure Manager, gave our final libraries workshop of the semester on Monday. She outlined AGU's new data citation policy that it is applying to all its journals, including JGR and Water Resources Research.

AGU now requires all data used for research reported in a paper to be cited, whether that data is yours or someone else's. Ruth described each part of a good citation, and helped people think of how to cite their own resources.

We finished with the consensus that citing data may be easier than persuading others to place data in a clearinghouse that makes it possible to cite it.
