The Kalahari Desert stretches across the Republic of Botswana, a landlocked country in Southern Africa. The official languages of Botswana are English and Setswana. The main tribe of Botswana is the Tswana people, hence the name Botswana for its country. Botswana's main ethnic groups are Tswana, Kalanga, Bushmen. The oldest paintings from both Botswana and South Africa depict hunting, animal and human figures, and were made by the San/Bushmen over twenty thousand years ago within the Kalahari desert.
