Scott Peckham's Home PageMy main research interest is in the applied mathematics of nonlinear science and its application to problems in hydrology and fluid dynamics. Most recently, this has led to an interest in nonlinear PDEs (partial differential equations) and general results for orthogonal curvilinear coordinate systems. I have a paper on a new geometric method for finding solutions to certain types of PDEs in a book by World Scientific called Geometry in Present-Day Science. Please e-mail me if you have any good references on these topics. At the moment I am looking for more info on 2D area-preserving transformations. I'm also thinking about creating a web page devoted to curvilinear coordinate systems.
Another big project that I put together in 1997 is my Tutorial Hotlist. Even though I have neglected it a bit until recently, I continue to get enthusiastic e-mail about it. It recently received a good review in the May 1999 issue of IT Recruiter Magazine. (Browse to Articles, May 1999, Online Tutorials for Techies).
One of my other major projects is a software toolkit for the analysis of digital terrain and river networks called RiverTools. RiverTools 2.4 is available from Rivix, LLC.
For those of you familiar with my earlier work on self-similar tree graphs, please note that the crosses on the Peckham shield are clearly "perfect trinary" trees. : )

Here are some impressive hotlists that I have found ready-made elsewhere.
