A Guide for being Prepared for Weekends at MRS:  Logistics and Academics

  1. Check announcements on the course home page, for any updates in plans (these would have also been emailed to you)

  2. Check the weather -  MRS forecast is at:  https://forecast.weather.gov//MapClick.php?lat=40.03175489383389&lon=-105.53359508514404&site=bou&smap=1&unit=0&lg=en&FcstType=text
This should help you make sure you have sufficient outdoor gear for field activities
  1. Check what special gear is needed for the weekend.  See the "Bring" section for each day's activity.  Links for these are in the Calendar-at-a-Glance:
  1. For Weds lectures and weekend activities, follow links from the Calendar-at-a-Glance to find:
    • Readings
    • Handouts (paper copies provided in class)/Notes
    • Lesson Points
    • Additional resources (helpful in understanding the topic & thinking about projects).
For field days, note that there may be 2 separate sets on the page - for the lecture/topic in general and the field activity.
Lesson points are generally in the form of questions to help you review what we did (i.e., What was the point of that activity?).  For the weekend, I recommend keeping in mind points from the previous lecture/activity, as we will build on them from one activity to the next.
  1. Keep track of project deadlines, also noted in the Calendar.  Occasional assignments are also given in class, and noted on Topic pages.
