All participants are fully sponsored by the ClearEarth project. Each participant will receive airfare and transportation to and from Boulder, six nights in an apartment-like suite shared with one other participant, transportation to and from the campus hackathon site, and all meals. Expenses not covered by the project include alcoholic beverages, recreation in Boulder during personal hours, or extra days if participants wish to stay and see the area (see staying on, below.)

Venue

All lectures, courses and hacking will take place at CU-Boulder's new Sustainability, Energy and Environment Complex (SEEC, pronounced "seek.") Buses will be available to transport participants to and from the hotel and SEEC. It is also a nice 1.4-mile walk along paths for those who prefer to walk.

Accomodations

Hackathon participants will be hosted two per apartment in the Boulder Homewood Suites by Hilton. Each apartment-like suite includes a bedroom, bathroom, kitchen (with fridge, microwave and range), and a living room area perfect for relaxing, group work or late-night work. The lobby is also equipped with work areas and ample outlets. The Homewood Suites facility includes a small fitness center; residents can also purchase day passes to the Colorado Athletic Club across the street for $5 per day, which includes access to evening classes.

January is the month with the fewest days of precipitation, but snow is possible, and the temperature can fall as low as 10 °F. Please check the weather forecast and come prepared for a variety of weather conditions.

Staying on in Boulder

"Passing through your wonderful mountains and canyons I realize that this state is going to be more and more the playground for the whole republic... You will see this is the real Switzerland of America."

-Theodore Roosevelt

Colorado is a dream destination for wintertime recreation. Although the hackathon cannot sponsor extra days for participants, Hilton Homewood Suites has graciously allowed participants to book additional nights at their own expense at our discounted group rate. If you have time, we highly recommend staying on for an extra day or two and exploring the area. Activities of interest might include touring Rocky Mountain National Park; skiing at Vail, Breckenridge, or another of Colorado's many excellent ski resorts; visiting the Garden of the Gods, riding the Pike's Peak Cog Railway to Inspiration Point (weekends only); attending a Colorado Avalanche game; or simply relaxing and sightseeing in Boulder and Denver.
